Second Suspect Arrested in East Fishkill Narcotics and Firearms Case

NY’s East FishkillA second suspect has been taken into custody by the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force in relation to a major drug and guns investigation in East Fishkill.

On January 5, 2025, Poughkeepsie resident Michael S. Birney, 32, was taken into custody after agents obtained information from the community that placed him close to Hooker Avenue and South Hamilton Street. Without incident, authorities found Birney and took him into custody.

Law enforcement had been looking for Birney since December 20, 2024, when they carried out a search warrant at a property on Robinson Lane in East Fishkill. During the search, more than two kilograms of cocaine, ammunition, and an illegal handgun were found. Birney allegedly manufactured, distributed, and stored drugs on the property, according to investigators.

Birney is charged with several felonies, including two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled narcotic with intent to sell and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (loaded firearm).

Birney was remanded to Dutchess County Jail on $150,000 cash bail, a $750,000 bond, or a $1 million partially secured bond after being arraigned in East Fishkill Justice Court.
