HUGHESVILLE, MD Authorities are looking into a fatal fire that killed a 94-year-old woman Thursday afternoon at her Hughesville home.
After a friend claimed that they had been unable to get in touch with the homeowner for many days, emergency personnel from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and EMS were sent to a residence on Driftwood Place at approximately 3:00 p.m.
Responders found the woman dead and clearly burned when they entered the house.
A joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident has been initiated by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of the State incident Marshal.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established by authorities, and the woman’s identity has not been made public until her family has been notified.
