WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. A 45-year-old Waterbury, Connecticut resident named Stephen Escoffery was sentenced on Thursday to 14 years in jail for shooting another driver during a road rage incident on Interstate 95 in December 2022.
Judge Maurice Dean Williams of Westchester County Court also granted the victim an Order of Protection and five years of post-release monitoring.
Escoffery was found guilty last month of first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Prosecutors claim that following a verbal altercation, Escoffery, who was traveling north on I-95 close to Harrison, New York, displayed a pistol and fired at another driver’s car.
The victim’s statement, which was read out in court during sentence, described the incident’s long-lasting psychological effects, stating, “Driving on the highway at night has become an anxiety-ridden experience for me.”
New York State Police Troop K looked into the crime with help from the Westchester County Department of Public Safety and other law enforcement organizations.
