Two Drivers Airlifted After Head-On Collision in Manchester Township

MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ The Manchester Township Police Department reports that two individuals were airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries after a head-on collision on County Route 539 on Wednesday night.

On the northbound grass shoulder of the road, officers discovered a blue 2021 Chevrolet Spark and a grey 2014 Chrysler 200 with significant front-end damage at around 5:24 p.m., close to mile marker 26.0.

Troy Sullivan, 62, of Absecon, was the driver of the Chrysler. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center with severe injuries and is now classified as stable. Wendy O. Neal, 54, of Hamilton, the driver of the Chevrolet, also suffered serious injuries to her upper torso and legs but is still in stable condition.

According to preliminary investigations, O Neal’s northbound Chevrolet was struck head-on by Sullivan’s Chrysler, which was moving south when it crossed the centerline. Following the collision, the Chevrolet turned 270 degrees and came to rest on the shoulder, while the Chrysler continued for about 150 feet until coming to a halt in the northbound lane.

Numerous entities provided assistance at the incident, including Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department.

Although the investigation is still underway, police have determined that failure to maintain lane was the main contributing factor in the collision.
