Metrobus slams into vacant Riverdale building as driver suffers fatal emergency

According to officials, the Metrobus driver tragically passed away Friday morning following a medical emergency that resulted in the bus colliding with an empty structure in Riverdale.

A bus traveling on WMATA’s F4 Route was involved in the collision, which occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m. close to Queensbury Road and Rhode Island Avenue. The Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department reports that the bus swerved off the road and collided with a structure in the 6200 block of Rhode Island Avenue.

There were six people on board when the collision occurred, but none of them were hurt. The bus driver passed away from the medical emergency after being taken to the hospital by medics.

Fire officials posted photos from the site, which showed the bus’s front end stuck in the empty building. No more casualties were recorded, and authorities verified the structure was empty.

While authorities continue to examine the crash scene, WMATA has opened an inquiry into the incident.
