Stolen vehicle pursuit ends in crash and arrest of teen in Southeast D.C.

Washington, D.C.Wednesday night in Southeast D.C., a police pursuit and collision involving a stolen vehicle resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect.

Around 6:30 p.m., a suspicious car was seen in the 1500 block of South Capitol Street, Southwest, which sparked the incident. Officers tried to stop the car, but it ran away and crashed in the Southeast 100 block of T Street. A passenger and the driver both ran away on foot, but the driver was caught soon after.

The vehicle had been stolen from the 800 block of Maine Avenue, Southwest, according to an investigation. Additionally, items taken from other parked cars in the same vicinity were discovered in the suspect’s hands.

Theft One (Stolen Auto), Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Fleeing from Law Enforcement, and two counts of Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle are among the charges against Jaylen Young, 18, of Southwest D.C., who was taken into custody.
