Montgomery, New York.Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler and Town of Montgomery Police Chief John Hank have announced the arrest and charging of a juvenile with second-degree arson in connection with two fires that were started inside Valley Central High School during class hours.
The event happened on January 9, 2025, at around 12:30 p.m., when the minor is accused of starting two different fires in the high school’s second-floor restrooms. Another youngster was in one of the washroom stalls when one of the fires was lit, and there were more than 1,300 pupils in the school at the time. Although there were no reported injuries, the restroom was damaged and charred by the fires.
With support from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Orange County Fire Investigation Unit, and Hudson Valley Arson & Explosives Task Force, the Town of Montgomery Police Department swiftly launched an investigation. During the investigation, the Valley Central School District also offered support.
According to District Attorney Hoovler, skilled law enforcement personnel promptly looked into the disturbing claims in this instance. Fortunately, no one was hurt in this case, even though the alleged offender’s acts were dangerous.
No other details on the juvenile have been made public due to their age.
