Gulfport Police K9 Assaulted in Gulfport; Four Suspects Arrested in Drug and Assault Case in Mississippi

Four individuals were apprehended by the Gulfport Police Department after an incident involving gunfire occurred in the early hours of Saturday. The charges they face include aggravated assault and drug trafficking.

Police were called to the scene of a shooting on 19th Street early this morning. Upon the arrival of officers, they discovered an individual who had sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.

During the house clearance, law enforcement discovered a 35-year-old individual named Tedric Antonio Owens concealed under a bed, armed with a gun. Owens refused to comply with arrest and attacked a K9 officer while being apprehended.

Another individual, injured by a gunshot to the chest, was taken to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle and subsequently transferred to another hospital by air. They are currently in a stable condition.

A group of individuals from South Carolina were staying at an Airbnb when the incident occurred. During a search of the premises and a vehicle, law enforcement officers uncovered three firearms, two of which had been reported stolen. They also found around 174 grams of marijuana, 1,011 dosage units of MDMA, and 84 grams of cocaine.

The arrested individuals are:

  • Tedric Antonio Owens, 35: Two counts of aggravated assault, one count of assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of trafficking cocaine, one count of trafficking MDMA, and one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
  • Christopher Emanuel Reese, 34: One count of trafficking cocaine, one count of trafficking MDMA, and one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
  • Demetrius Dontay Goodman, 36: One count of trafficking cocaine, one count of trafficking MDMA, and one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
  • Laquavius Deshaun Wortherly, 36: One count of trafficking cocaine, one count of trafficking MDMA, and one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

The suspects have been taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center and are currently being held there until their bonds are set by Judge Patano.
