Atlanta, GeorgiaDue to an engine problem, a Delta flight leaving from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia had to abandon takeoff on Friday morning, forcing passengers to evacuate via emergency slides. The terrifying event started when Flight 2668, which was headed for Minneapolis St. Paul, suddenly stopped on the runway, causing passengers to rush to get out of the plane.

Engine Trouble Grounds Boeing 757

According to Delta Air Lines, the flight crew identified an engine problem and suspended the takeoff by following protocol.

Safety precautions were taken immediately after the incident, which happened at around 9:10 a.m. Five flight attendants, two pilots, and 201 passengers were on board the Boeing 757.

Emergency Evacuation Caught on Video

Videos of people sliding down the plane’s emergency slides quickly went viral on social media. As people hurried to safety, the hectic but organized evacuation made the seriousness of the situation clear.

The majority were uninjured, but four people were slightly hurt, and one was taken to a nearby hospital for additional testing.

In a statement, Atlanta Airport acknowledged the injuries and noted that the incident and the region’s harsh winter weather had created delays in airport operations.

Weather Adds to Travel Chaos

The difficulties have been made worse by a strong winter storm that has dumped snow on portions of the Midwest and Southeast, bringing freezing temperatures as far south as Florida.

The storm disrupted travel arrangements for many travelers, and snowflakes were seen in Atlanta proper, an uncommon sight for the area.
