The city of Indianapolis This past week, a terrifying snowstorm in Indiana put the dedication of a local pizza delivery guy to the test, transforming what should have been a normal drop-off into an incredible story of perseverance, fortitude, and an unexpected turn. To make sure a family got their pizza order, Connor Stephanoff braved frigid temperatures, unplowed roadways, and harsh gusts. The big surprise, though, was that he only received a $2 tip for his tireless efforts. However, what followed turned into a powerful illustration of compassion in our neighborhood.
The Icy Journey in Brownsburg
In Brownsburg, Indiana, Connor Stephanoff, a delivery driver for Rock Star Pizza, had to hike half a mile through deep snow. His route had been interrupted by a school bus crash, and the roads were dangerous, with snowplows hardly keeping up.
To deliver a $40 pizza order to a house in a posh neighborhood, Stephanoff parked his car at the top of a hill and walked the remaining distance while wearing only sweatpants, a sweatshirt, a beanie, and sneakers.
A $2.15 Tip Shocks Officer
When Avon Police Department Lieutenant Richard Craig saw Stephanoff negotiating the snowy street, he immediately believed he was an inquisitive onlooker. Craig inquired about the gratuity after finding that the young man was delivering pizza.
Stephanoff said, “Two dollars,” but after looking at the receipt again, he changed it to $2.15.
Astonished by the small tip, Craig vented his annoyance in an online video. Cold-blooded! Craig yelled, “This man went through hell and high water to deliver a pizza.”
Police Officer Takes Action
Craig gave Stephanoff $15 out of his own wallet, impressed by his work ethic but disappointed by the tip. Later, he launched a GoFundMe campaign with the initial goal of raising $500 to honor Stephanoff’s efforts.
By Saturday morning, the campaign had raised over $16,000, considerably exceeding expectations.
Rock Star Pizza Speaks Out
Rock Star Pizza acknowledged that the story struck a chord with many people who had worked in customer service and commended Stephanoff’s commitment in a Facebook post.
“Anyone who has ever worked in customer service has been Connor at some point,” the tweet said.
Despite being offered the choice to stay at home during the storm, Stephanoff choose to work, according to the eatery.
The eatery said, “He’s a great kid who works hard, and we’re so happy to have him.”
A Message of Dedication
Anywhere, at any time, in any condition. The pizza will be delivered, Stephanoff promised.
A chilly, icy delivery has been transformed into a touching tale of tenacity and community kindness thanks to his perseverance and Officer Craig’s assistance. Follow @TheOfficerCraig on X and Instagram.
