MANORHAVEN Two boats caught fire and sank at the Manhasset Bay Marina early on Wednesday, turning a peaceful night in Manorhaven, New York, into a horror. The local community was rocked by the extraordinary event, which took place in the dead of night in cold weather. As firefighters fought to contain the fire to stop additional damage, a guy who had suffered severe injuries was taken to the hospital.

Emergency Response in Freezing Conditions

Reports of a boat fire at the Long Island marina prompted the Port Washington Fire Department to arrive at around 12:30 a.m. The situation had become more challenging as temperatures had dropped into the single digits. By the time Assistant Chief Patrick Saccoccia reached the site, the fire had already spread to two vessels.

Saccoccia stated that a 42-foot Post boat and a 43-foot Marine Trader yacht were caught in fire at the marina’s far end. In order to combat the fire, firefighters ran two hose lines over 1,000 feet while working in bitter cold. Despite their best attempts, both boats eventually perished when the fire was put out at 2:15 in the morning.

A Close Call for a Neighboring Boater

In the midst of the confusion, there were worries that the first boat to catch fire might still have a stranded person. But despite extensive searches, nobody was located. Regretfully, a 58-year-old guy on the second boat was burned after inhaling smoke. The Manhasset Ambulance quickly transported him to a neighboring hospital for medical attention.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal began looking into the cause of the fire while firefighters worked nonstop to contain the situation.

Officials are working quickly to piece together what caused this flaming catastrophe, with two boats lost and one person injured.
