OCEANSIDE, CA The U.S. Coast Guard and lifeguards stopped a stranded boat carrying 26 migrants from several nations, resulting in a dramatic rescue off the California coast. Those on board were left defenseless in open waters after the ship ran out of gasoline and became adrift about one mile offshore.
Lifeguards Spot Stranded Vessel
Around 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oceanside lifeguards reported seeing the crippled boat close to Oceanside Harbor, which sparked the incident. The ship, packed with people, sat still in the water.
Although preliminary inspections showed that none of the migrants were hurt, the situation was still critical because the boat was stuck and without gasoline. Lifeguards called the Coast Guard for help right away.
Coast Guard Responds with Cutter Terrell Horne
The Coast Guard sent the Cutter Terrell Horne to the site in a flash. When they got there, the crew sent out a boarding crew to help the people who were stuck.
On board the ship, the team found 26 migrants from various countries, including Mexico, China, and Vietnam.
Migrants Transferred to Border Patrol Custody
The migrants were taken aboard the Coast Guard cutter and then turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol after everyone’s safety was guaranteed.
