The 4000 Block of Elbern Avenue is where the explosion occurred. A video of the turmoil was made public by city officials on Thursday.
One of the two employees of Local Waste Services was observed unintentionally emptying a bin that contained the hazardous oxygen tank while they were loading residential trash into the vehicle. He was about to reach for another bin when the tank caught fire, causing an explosion that threw debris in his direction. The worker instinctively covered his head and scurried to safety.
Officials Warn of Hazardous Waste Disposal
The unauthorized placement of an oxygen tank in a rubbish can was determined by authorities to be the cause of the explosion.
Residents were cautioned by city officials about the risks associated with illegally disposed of objects. They exhorted people to properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials.

Workers Escape Serious Injury
The workers were spared serious injury in spite of the mayhem. The Whitehall Police Department was glad that things didn’t turn out worse.
