Man Dies After Gunfight with Oregon Police; Suspect Shot After Firing on Police from Roof in Lincoln City

Oregon State Police stated on Thursday that a man has died after shooting at investigators who were conducting an investigation into a parking infraction.

According to the Office of Special Police (OSP), the Lincoln City Police Department requested aid from other agencies in identifying the individual who fired at officers at approximately 12:42 p.m. on Wednesday. Authorities reported that he escaped the murder scene in a motor vehicle, and subsequently on foot.

State authorities dispatched a SWAT K-9 team and ascertained that the suspect would be located at 1905 NW Jetty Ave. The occupants informed authorities that they were aware of the suspect but had not seen him on that particular day. Subsequently, investigators discovered that the suspect was present within the apartment and obtained a search order for the premises.

Several hours later, namely after midnight on Thursday, a SWAT squad arrived at the location as negotiators made many efforts to establish communication with the suspect and verbally give instructions through a public address system.

The OSP stated that he made repeated threats to authorities before proceeding to discharge his firearm from within the property, commencing at 2:45 a.m. According to the agency, a domestic fire occurred “without evident cause,” when the suspect fled through a window and ascended onto the roof while carrying a firearm.

Law police reported that four SWAT personnel discharged their firearms at the man when he declined to surrender his weapon. Subsequently, he descended from the rooftop to the ground.

Authorities reportedly yanked the suspect from the engulfed structure in an effort to provide medical assistance. At the scene, he was declared already deceased.
