Drivers had to navigate a slippery, unexpected mess as gallons of cheese covered the road after the event, which was called a logistical nightmare. Before commuters hit the freeway, authorities spent the night cleaning up the wreckage.
Semi Trailer Overturns in Dramatic Crash
On Wednesday, shortly after midnight, a collision happened on Interstate 95 close to Lake Worth’s mile marker 63. Gallons of milk spilled across the highway after a semi-truck carrying boxes of Borden milk flipped over the center barrier and its underbelly tore open.
In a timely response, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue posted pictures of the semi’s crumpled frame and milk crates strewn all over the northbound lanes. They referred to the crash as “udderly unfortunate.”
Emergency Crews Assess Damage
Eleven people were assessed on the spot by first responders. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and nobody involved needed hospitalization.
In an attempt to lighten the mood, officials declared that the drivers did not require transportation to the hospital.
Cleanup Efforts Stretch Into Early Morning
It took almost three hours to clean up the 4,160 gallons of milk that were spilled. Before the morning rush, crews labored to remove the milk-soaked debris and get traffic moving again.
Putting all jokes aside, the fire department stated that they were happy that no one was harmed and that the road was prepared for the commute this morning.
Despite the brief delays brought on by the collision, significant traffic disruptions were avoided thanks to the prompt response.
