Residents of Des Moines, Iowa, should brace themselves for two rounds of snow accumulation this week, as numerous counties are under winter weather advisories. A second, more powerful system will arrive midweek after the first one arrives today.
The first round of snow is expected to start in northwest Iowa late Monday morning and move south and east during the afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service. In the northwest and north-central areas, accumulations of 2 to 4 inches of dry, fluffy snow are anticipated as a result of this system.
Early on Wednesday, a second snow storm is predicted to move northward from southeastern Iowa. In the southeast, 4 to 7 inches of snow could fall during this round. In the north and west, accumulations will taper off less.
Authorities caution that both storms may result in dangerous driving conditions, with commutes being impacted by slick roadways. It is advised that drivers exercise caution and slow down.
