Missouri Winter Weather Advisory: Ice and Snow Impacting Springfield Travel Through Tuesday Morning

Springfield, Missouri Road conditions in southwest Missouri are hazardous due to a combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, and they are predicted to get worse over night. Until Tuesday at noon, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, warning of up to an inch of snow and a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation.

With slick roads and potential ice formation, travel along I-44 and Highway 60 may be dangerous, according to the NWS. Wind chills as low as 26 F will be produced Tuesday morning by winds of up to 22 mph. It will continue to rain and freeze into the afternoon before turning to snow on Tuesday evening.

Another storm system is predicted to arrive by Wednesday, bringing with it more snow and maybe ice, especially in the Highway 54 region. With wind chills in the teens, morning temperatures will stay in the low 20s.

It is advised that drivers exercise caution, slow down, and look for road closures before heading out. Carrying emergency supplies is advised by the Missouri Department of Transportation because abrupt visibility problems could arise overnight due to patchy fog and freezing showers.

By Friday, warmer temperatures are predicted, but in the meantime, ice roads and some business or school closures are to be expected. Keep abreast of local weather alerts and be ready for potentially dangerous travel situations.
