Ambulance Hit Head-On by SUV in Indiana, Driver Seriously Injured

Portage Five individuals were hurt Wednesday afternoon after an INA white Chevrolet Equinox collided with a Portage Fire Department ambulance.

According to police, the SUV lost control on snow-covered roadways while traveling south on the Willowcreek Bypass. The car struck the ambulance head-on after crossing the center line and slamming into a delivery truck.

There were no patients in the ambulance as it made its way back to the fire station. Inside were four medics from the Portage Fire Department. No significant injuries were observed, but two people complained of soreness. For assessment, all four were brought to the hospital.

The driver of the SUV, a 36-year-old male from Hobart, failed to buckle up. He suffered a severe head injury after being thrown into the passenger seat in the collision. He is anticipated to live after being sent to a nearby hospital.

Both cars were towed after suffering significant damage. Before reopening, the Willowcreek Bypass was blocked for more than an hour.

During the winter, authorities advise vehicles to slow down.
