Washington, D.C.Snow and icy conditions are predicted to affect traffic into Thursday morning in areas of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, where a winter weather advisory is still in force.
The National Weather Service predicts that roads may get slick throughout the Wednesday night and Thursday morning commutes, with snow accumulations of up to one inch predicted in the Washington, D.C. metro area, which includes Charles, Calvert, and Stafford counties.
Up to three inches of snow and wind gusts of up to fifty miles per hour were possible further west in Garrett County, Maryland, as well as in portions of western Virginia and West Virginia. Traveling in these circumstances may be dangerous, as fallen tree limbs may cause power outages.
Authorities advise motorists to use caution and factor in more time for travel. Roads and sidewalks are more likely to become ice when surface temperatures fall into the teens and low 20s. While higher elevations are still on notice until 7 a.m. Friday, the advise for the majority of areas ends by 11 a.m. Thursday.
Residents can visit their state’s transportation website or call 511 for the most recent road conditions.
