Oregon Weather Alert: High Cascades Snowfall Expected Monday Night, Up to 6 Inches Possible

Medford, Oregon On Monday night, a cold front is predicted to pass across the High Cascades of Oregon, bringing heavy snowfall—up to six inches in some places. Travel conditions at higher elevations, such as Diamond Lake Junction, Willamette Pass, and Crater Lake, are expected to be affected by the storm.

The cold front is expected to reach late Monday, bringing with it cooler temperatures and precipitation, which could result in substantial snowfall, particularly over 5,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Medford. According to forecast models, there is a 50% possibility that by Tuesday morning, more than six inches may accumulate.

In the impacted areas, drivers should expect poorer visibility and slick roads. Before driving through mountain passes, drivers are advised by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to verify road conditions and bring chains. At lower elevations, minor effects are anticipated, but driving conditions may be challenging in higher terrain areas.

The unpredictable late-winter weather in Oregon’s mountains is brought home by this snowfall occurrence. Early in the week, visitors to Crater Lake and other high-altitude locations should be ready for winter weather and keep an eye on NWS prediction updates for any changes.
