Binghamton On Friday, Binghamton and the surrounding counties are predicted to see a wintry combination of rain, snow, and freezing rain that could make driving on I-81 dangerous. With temperatures close to freezing, commuters may be put in danger by slick roads and poor visibility.
The National Weather Service predicts that early Friday morning will bring rain and snow showers, with a high of about 37 degrees Fahrenheit. Road conditions may deteriorate due to northwest winds of 6 to 9 mph. Although less than half an inch of snow is predicted to accumulate, freezing rain could make roads and walkways dangerous.
Rain and snow showers will continue Friday night before easing off about 4 a.m. Lows will dip to about 33 degrees Fahrenheit, and there’s a potential that icy patches will form during the night.
Outlook for the Weekend
Before the skies clear in the afternoon on Saturday, there may be freezing rain and persistent showers throughout the morning. Overnight, temperatures will rise to 44 degrees Fahrenheit but then drop to a freezing 15 degrees, increasing the likelihood of icy conditions on Sunday morning. On Sunday, there will be a lot of clouds and a high of around 22 degrees Fahrenheit. The night will be extremely cold, with lows of about 13 degrees.
Gazing Ahead
There is sunlight and a small increase in temperature throughout the first week of March. Highs in the upper 30s are predicted for Monday and Tuesday, but by midweek, more rain and snow are probably in store.
Particularly on Friday morning and Saturday evening, drivers should use caution. Keep abreast of any changes to the road conditions and wear warm clothing for the weekend.
