The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced an extension of the tax deadline for residents of West Virginia who were impacted by the catastrophic storms, flooding, and landslides that started on February 15, 2025.
Many families and companies found themselves in a challenging situation as a result of the storms, which brought with them heavy winds, flooding, and traffic closures.
In order to assist individuals impacted, West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey ordered a state of emergency. The federal government then issued a major disaster proclamation.
Now, the IRS has made the decision to extend the tax filing deadlines, which is a relief for taxpayers.
The IRS’s tax relief program is applicable to people and companies who live in counties affected by disasters.
What is the duration of the tax relief?
The extended deadlines apply to payroll taxes, other quarterly estimated tax payments, and income tax reporting, which is typically due on April 15, 2025.
Most significantly, you won’t have to worry about penalties until November 3, 2025, when you file your returns and make payments.
Furthermore, don’t worry if you missed the payment dates between February 15, 2025, and March 3, 2025. Payments made before March 3, 2025, will result in a reduction of penalties.
