DC Police Seize Semi-Automatic Rifle From Teen During Traffic Stop

WASHINGTON —

A 19-year-old man was arrested and faces various firearms charges after a Thursday traffic stop in Northwest D.C., according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

MPD states that officers pulled over a black Honda Civic shortly before midnight in the 1500 block of 7th Street NW.

During the traffic stop, an officer noticed an open bottle of alcohol in the car. Police say that when the officer went to retrieve the bottle, a semi-automatic rifle could be seen on the floorboard behind the driver’s seat.

Officers charged the man with carrying a rifle or shotgun outside of the home or business, possession of unregistered ammunition, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of an open container of alcohol in a car.

The man remains in custody in the Third District for further processing, police say.
