Miller County, GA – A 12-year-old from Texas is facing legal consequences after making bomb threats to two schools in southwest Georgia last week, as reported by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
The first threat was received on September 11, when Miller County Middle School got a message via Facebook claiming there was a bomb. The Miller County Sheriff’s Office, with support from the GBI, dispatched bomb technicians who conducted a thorough search but found no explosives. GBI agents and analysts then worked on tracing the message’s origin.
The following day, September 12, Spring Creek Charter Academy in Bainbridge received an email alleging a bomb was present on campus. The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, again aided by the GBI, searched the premises and found no evidence of any threat.
Investigators have determined that the threats came from the same 12-year-old in Texas. There is no evidence suggesting that the child traveled to Georgia or that the schools were in any real danger.
Law enforcement officials have commended the rapid response and effective collaboration between local and state authorities, as well as the cooperation from the school districts involved.
The minor will be prosecuted in Texas, with further consultations involving district attorneys from Georgia’s South Georgia and Pataula Judicial Circuits. Additional charges could be filed if more individuals are found to be involved as reported by Fox-5-Atlanta News.
