A 19-year-old Fort Riley soldier has been accused in connection with the fatal crash of an off-duty Clearwater police officer earlier this year.
According to court records, Gage Kaiser of Mulvane has been charged with involuntary manslaughter while under the influence and two counts of aggravated battery. The accusations were filed last month, and Kaiser was brought into Sedgwick County Jail on Wednesday.
The crash occurred early Saturday, March 16, at 119th and Broadway, just east of Peck. The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office reported that a pickup truck failed to stop and crashed with Scott Hollingsworth’s automobile.
According to the City of Clearwater, Officer Hollingsworth was slain while going home from work. He had worked for the Clearwater Police Department for a year and left behind a wife and daughter.
Kaiser’s first court appearance was originally planned for September 5, but was canceled. It was rescheduled for 3 p.m., Thursday. According to KMAN, Kaiser is an Army Infantryman who has been stationed at Fort Riley since July 2022.
