TEANECK, NJ. Along with many other Americans, Teaneck Deputy Mayor Elie Y. Katz and his family are still stuck in Israel because of the ongoing violence, according to remarks made Thursday by former New Jersey gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli.
Ciattarelli mentioned in a Zoom exchange made public that Katz had gone to Israel two weeks prior for a family wedding with his wife, son, and daughter. They have been unable to go back to Bergen County because of the fighting.
According to Ciattarelli, they are not alone. Many residents of New Jersey are among the hundreds of thousands of Americans who have been unable to return.
U.S. Embassy coordinating departures for American citizens
The U.S. Embassy in Israel, which is planning evacuation flights and cruise ship departures for American citizens who are remaining in the country, sent an urgent update, Ciattarelli said. The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) must be registered at mytravel.state.gov/s/step for those who wish to depart.
The evacuations have not been given a precise timeframe.
The deputy mayor of Teaneck is still among the numerous American citizens trapped in Israel because to the ongoing crisis, and officials in New Jersey are keeping an eye on the situation.
