Drug Overdose Reported at Makeshift Ocean County Parking Garage Homeless Encampment

TOMS RIVER, N.J.Police responded to an overdose Tuesday evening at the top level of the Toms River municipal parking garage, where a growing homeless encampment has taken shape in recent weeks, officials said.

The incident occurred at a makeshift shelter area near the downtown Toms River branch of the Ocean County Library, where a 20-year-old individual was found unresponsive.

CPR was in progress when emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

Authorities have not released the individual s identity or current condition. It remains unclear what substance was involved in the overdose.

The overdose happened at the homeless encampment that has formed at the municipal lot in recent weeks, endorsed by the Ocean County Board of Commissioners, endorsed by commissioners Frank Sadeghi and Robert Arace.
