Laurel, M.D.Ramiro Polanco Mendez of Howard County, who won $50,000 on a Mega Bucks scratch-off ticket and now intends to start his own business, had a life-altering experience after a normal walk.
During one of his frequent walks earlier this month, Mendez made a stop at the Exxon station at 801 Washington Boulevard in Laurel. He bought two tickets to the $10 Mega Bucks. The second ticket revealed the once-in-a-lifetime surprise, whereas the first ticket was a loss.
Mendez remarked, “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.” To be sure, I had to scan it. Although it was not the $100,000 top prize, the scanner verified a $50,000 win, which was sufficient to launch his future.
Mendez went home after a couple more games and told his family the news. On Tuesday, June 17, he announced that he will invest the money in a small business after claiming his award.
More big wins still available in Mega Bucks game
In November, the $10 Mega Bucks scratch-off was introduced. Six of the nine top prizes of $100,000 have not been claimed, according to Maryland Lottery officials. There are still thousands of lesser winners, 15 $10,000 prizes, and four of the $50,000 second-tier rewards left.
