Washington, D.C.The Metropolitan Police Department reports that a 39-year-old woman died Monday night after being hit by two cars on New York Avenue NE.
Officers from the Fifth District were called to a traffic incident involving a pedestrian in the 2800 block of New York Avenue NE at around 9:32 p.m. The woman was unconscious and not breathing when they got there. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by DC Fire and EMS officials.
Sierra Nichole Smith, 39, who does not have a set residence, has been identified as the victim.
A preliminary examination indicates that the woman raced onto the road, stumbled, and fell in front of the semi-trailer truck, which was heading east in the 1600 block of New York Avenue. She was hit by the truck and pinned under it. The woman’s body became dislodged and hit once again by a silver 2007 Chevrolet Suburban that was following the truck as it went east.
MPD continues crash investigation
Both drivers are assisting with the inquiry and have stayed on the scene. The case is being handled by detectives from the Major Crash Investigations Unit.
