Jackson, New Jersey.Ellie, a dog who has spent a significant portion of her life in and out of shelters, is in desperate need of assistance once more. The Northern Ocean County Animal Facility’s volunteers and staff are begging a 501(c)(3) rescue group to come get her.
Ellie, who is affectionate and driven by food, has had a challenging road. She was sent to the Jackson-based facility after spending many months in a now-closed municipal shelter. The shelter is unable to release Ellie without the assistance of an authorized rescue organization, even though they have a foster and a trainer scheduled.
Shelter staff commented, “She needs help now,” pointing out that Ellie had been moved around a lot. Although she is apprehensive around strangers, she gradually warms up and displays affection by wagging her tail and giving hugs.
Ellie gets along with peaceful dogs that respect her personal space, has passed all shelter evaluations, and exhibits no resource-guarding behavior. However, she doesn’t spend much time outside the kennel, and the prolonged shelter situation is wearing her down.
Foster and trainer secured but rescue needed to act
The shelter used a recent success story—the rescue of Rosalyn, a longtime resident, thanks to the combined efforts of volunteers and rescue support—to highlight the urgency. The attention is now on Ellie.
