Ocean Township to hold 14th annual Independence Day celebration on June 28

WARETOWN, New Jersey.The 14th Annual Independence Day Celebration of the Township of Ocean will take place at the Corliss Park Lake & Recreation Area Pavilion, which is situated at 182 Wells Mills Road in Waretown, on Saturday, June 28 at 10:00 a.m.

The Township Committee, which consists of Committeewoman Lydia Dodd, Deputy Mayor Ken Baulderstone, and Mayor Ben LoParo, is hosting the event. A number of performances and tributes to the history of the country and local soldiers will be included in the program.

The Bell Choir from the United Methodist Church, the Greenbriar Glee Club, the Barnegat American Legion Post 232 Color Guard, and the Greenbriar Men’s Club are scheduled to participate and present the flags. The keynote speaker will be Ocean County Cultural & Heritage Commission Division Director Timothy Hart.

The names of Civil War veterans interred in Main Street’s Olde Cemetery will be read by Adele Shaw, president and historian of the Waretown Historical Society. The bell will ring in remembrance of the departed after each name.

To find out more about Waretown’s past, attendees are encouraged to visit the Little Red Schoolhouse Museum. After Taps, there will be free hot dogs and drinks. There is no rain date for the event, according to the organizers.
