Search intensifies for man who killed three children as police suspect appearance change

WENATCHEE, Washington. As the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office investigation begins its third week, local and federal investigators are still searching extensively for Travis Decker, the suspect in a triple homicide that claimed the lives of three children.

In collaboration with the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), the Washington Army National Guard (WA ANG), and the U.S. Marshals Service, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has sent out officers to the backcountry and rural areas of both Chelan and Kittitas counties. While ground and aircraft personnel search the region for indications of Decker, investigators continue to concentrate on analyzing the material and analyzing test data.

In a public update Tuesday afternoon, the agency said that CCSO Detectives are working on the criminal case, conducting follow-up interviews, processing evidence, and analyzing data and analysis from evidential items delivered to the crime lab for processing.

While the WA ANG continues to support the mission with air surveillance and transportation of search troops into isolated regions, KCSO has deployed air and ground units with competence in searching forest terrain. Additionally, the CCSO Air Support Unit and Search and Rescue teams continue to operate, offering field knowledge and aerial supervision.

The public is encouraged to report sightings of Decker, who is still at large.

In the manhunt for Decker, the U.S. Marshals Service has taken the lead, sending out specialist teams and performing focused interviews and examinations. Law enforcement officials have reported that there is currently no evidence of a wider threat to public safety, including in outdoor recreation areas, even though Decker is still at large.

The public has being urged to exercise caution. We encourage anyone with information regarding Decker’s whereabouts to call 1-800-336-0102 or submit tips online at www.usmarshals.gov/tips.
