Two men killed in I-97 crash after vehicle strikes trees and overturns in Anne Arundel County

Crownsville, Maryland.A double deadly collision that happened Tuesday night along northbound Interstate 97 in Anne Arundel County is being looked into by Maryland State Police.

The victims are Marcus Eric James Jr., 29, of Shady Side, and Thomas Oliver Sellman III, 30, of Churchton. Emergency medical workers declared both of them dead at the site.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Sellman, operating a Dodge Durango, veered off the road for an unidentified reason at approximately 9:03 p.m., resulting in the collision. The car swerved into a wooded area off the right shoulder, collided with two trees, and flipped over. James was a passenger on the ride.

Along with officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, troopers from the Maryland State Police Annapolis Barrack arrived on the site and helped with traffic control and road closures for almost four hours.

The investigation into the incident’s cause is still being led by the Maryland State Police Crash Team.
