The 2024-2025 school year in New York City has only just begun, but students will soon get some time off.
According to the school calendar, all public school pupils in New York City will be out of school for two days next week to observe a holiday.
Rosh Hashanah, a two-day Jewish New Year festival, will take place on Thursday, October 3, and Friday, October 4, with schools closed. And it means “head of the year” in Hebrew.
It is a holy and joyous time when family and friends meet for meals, worship, and grow closer to God, all while anticipating the new year and reflecting on the previous one.
This year’s celebration starts at sundown on Wednesday, October 2, and finishes after nightfall on Friday, October 4.
Students will return to class on Monday, October 7.
Students will not have to wait long for their next day off, which will be a week later, on Monday, Oct. 14, in honor of Italian Heritage/Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
For those looking ahead, students and staff will get another six days off until Christmas break begins on December 24.
