President Trump was able to get one of the gilded Tiffany trophies to display in the Oval Office after Chelsea won the FIFA Club World Cup last weekend.
After being welcomed to the presidential box at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Attorney General Pam Bondi took home what she considered to be an equally precious prize: a picture of Mr. Trump giving her the thumbs-up sign and a squinchy smile.
The photo served as tangible evidence that Ms. Bondi has, for the time being, won her battle against Dan Bongino, a senior FBI official who accused her of botching the investigation’s conclusion against businessman Jeffrey Epstein. Some Trump advisors agree, but Mr. Bongino overplayed his hand, and Ms. Bondi used her close ties in the White House to get Mr. Trump to tell her detractors to stop talking in a Truth Social post.
Allow Pam Bondi to do her job; she is excellent! He used full caps when writing.
However, Ms. Bondi’s long-term success—and maybe her survival—is far from certain. Her decision to release a memo this month confirming that Mr. Epstein’s 2019 death in the jailhouse was a suicide sparked a fierce and unexpected right-wing backlash against Mr. Trump. There was no precedent, no clear escape route, and no mercy shown to an attorney general who some Trump acolytes view as a symbol of a second term full of broken promises.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Ms. Bondi assured reporters, “I’m going to be here for as long as the president wants me here, and I believe he’s made that crystal clear.”
Three and a half years is four years, correct? Ms. Bondi was added. Even though it’s just been six months, it feels like six years.
