Barack Obama, the former president, has harsh criticism for his party members: Too many have been intimidated into remaining silent.
Speaking privately to party contributors on Friday night, Mr. Obama chastised Democrats for not opposing President Trump and his policies, implying that they were avoiding the task because they were afraid of reprisals.
This will necessitate a slight reduction in navel gazing, whimpering, and fetal positions. At a DNC fund-raiser held at New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s house, Mr. Obama stated that Democrats would need to simply become more resilient.
I’ve been shocked by how many progressives and liberals who supported a variety of causes when I was president now appear to be intimidated and cowed and are avoiding simply stating their opinions, or at least what they claimed to believe, he continued.
Democrats, who have been locked out of power in Washington, have mostly been debating how to deal with a hostile Trump administration. On Monday, Mr. Obama’s administration shared his remarks.
He was especially critical of the law firms that he claimed had been prepared to overturn the law in reaction to Mr. Trump’s actions—not because they were going to go to jail, by the way, but rather because they might lose some clients and be unable to complete the kitchen renovation at their Hampton home. I’m not impressed.
