A 30-year-old Southern California man has been sentenced to 111 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting and raping five women he met through dating apps and social media platforms over an eight-year period.
Dustin Ronald Alba of Oxnard was convicted by a jury on June 9 and sentenced on July 31, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office announced.
According to prosecutors, the assaults took place between 2012 and 2020 in locations including Thousand Oaks, Oxnard, and Los Angeles. Many of the women met Alba through dating apps or online platforms and agreed to meet in person. Once alone with them, Alba used force to carry out the assaults.
“Despite repeated pleas for him to stop, he would use his body weight to pin down the victims and ignore their objections,” court documents revealed.
In one case from August 2020, Alba met a woman through a dating app who had clearly communicated that she was not interested in a sexual relationship. After spending the day together, the two went to his home, where he allegedly ripped her clothes off, pulled her onto the bed, and forcibly raped her. The woman reported the assault to police immediately after leaving his residence.
As Ventura County Sheriff’s investigators examined Alba’s phone, they uncovered evidence of additional victims through text messages. Four more women were identified, one of whom was under the age of 18 at the time of the assault.
Alba was ultimately convicted of nine felony counts involving forcible sexual acts, including rape, sodomy, and attempted forcible rape, across five separate victims. The jury also found true several aggravating factors, including multiple victims, abuse of a position of trust, victim vulnerability, and violent conduct.
“The defendant’s sexual violence caused profound harm to many victims, warranting the sentence imposed,” said Deputy District Attorney Rosa Romero, who prosecuted the case. “While nothing can erase the pain endured, it is my hope that the victims will begin to heal.”
Alba will serve his sentence in a California state prison.
