Health Alert: Nearly 2,000 Pounds of Sausage Sold Nationwide Recalled Over Metal Contamination

Portland, Oregon — Nearly one ton of ready-to-eat sausage sold across several states and nationwide online has been recalled after a consumer reported finding a piece of metal inside the product, federal officials confirmed.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the recall involves approximately 1,930 pounds of holiday kielbasa produced by Olympia Provisions. The recall was announced Friday by the agency’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) after a customer complaint raised safety concerns.

Metal Contamination Confirmed by USDA

FSIS said the sausage may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically metal fragments. The agency later confirmed that the metal pieces found were approximately 1.25 inches long, posing a potential choking or injury hazard if consumed.

The issue came to light after Olympia Provisions notified FSIS that a customer had discovered the metal scrap while eating the product. Officials emphasized that no confirmed injuries or illnesses have been reported so far.

Where and When the Product Was Sold

The affected sausage was manufactured on October 14 and distributed to retail locations in California, Oregon, and Washington. In addition to in-store sales, the product was also sold nationwide through the company’s direct-to-consumer online store, expanding the potential reach of the recall.

FSIS urged consumers across the U.S. — not just on the West Coast — to check their refrigerators and freezers.

Recalled Product Details

Consumers are advised to look for the following information on the packaging:

  • Product name: OLYMPIA PROVISIONS UNCURED HOLIDAY KIELBASA
  • Package size: 16-ounce vacuum-sealed plastic casing
  • Best If Used By date: February 19, 2026
  • Establishment number: EST. 39928 inside the USDA mark of inspection

“Consumers who have purchased this product are urged not to consume it,” the agency said. “The product should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.”

Consumers who may have already eaten the product and are concerned about possible injury are encouraged to contact a healthcare provider.

How to Get More Information

For additional questions related to the recall or food safety concerns, consumers can contact the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or email [email protected]. The hotline is staffed by food safety experts who can help answer questions about recalls and safe food handling.

Reminder About Foreign Material Recalls

FSIS regularly issues recalls involving foreign materials such as metal, plastic, or bone fragments. While rare, these contaminants can cause serious injury, which is why officials stress the importance of checking recall notices and acting quickly when alerts are issued.

The agency said it will continue monitoring the situation and will provide updates if additional information becomes available.
