GBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting at DeKalb County Apartment Complex

DeKalb County, Georgia – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred overnight at an apartment complex in DeKalb County, authorities confirmed early Monday.

Shooting Occurred at East Ponce Village Apartments

The incident happened at the East Ponce Village apartments on Wood Bend Drive. Crime scene tape was visible around the complex Monday morning as investigators worked at the scene.

A photographer from Channel 2 Action News was present as law enforcement secured the area following the shooting.

Officer Encountered Armed Man Unrelated to Original Call

Investigators told Channel 2 reporter Darryn Moore that a DeKalb County police officer was responding to a call at the apartment complex when the officer encountered a man who was armed with a gun. Authorities said the armed individual was not connected to the original call.

According to investigators, a confrontation followed between the officer and the man, during which the officer fired their weapon.

Suspect Expected to Survive, Officer Unharmed

Officials confirmed that the officer involved in the shooting was not injured during the encounter. The man who was shot is expected to survive, investigators said.

No additional details about the suspect’s identity or the nature of the confrontation have been released at this time.
