Monmouth County’s Troubled Bridge Over Water Could Soon Be Replaced

MANASQUAN, N.J. – The Brielle Road Bridge (Bridge W-9), located in Manasquan, New Jersey, has experienced several closures in recent months due to ongoing structural concerns and the need for maintenance.

The aging bridge, which spans the Glimmer Glass, has been the subject of repair efforts, but its deteriorating condition has led to frequent shutdowns, causing significant traffic disruptions for local residents and commuters. Monmouth County officials have acknowledged the bridge’s unreliability and are planning a full replacement as part of the Three Bridges Project, which also includes Bridges W-7 and W-8. Public discussions about the replacement are ongoing.

The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners has announced that a virtual public hearing will be held on Thursday, Dec. 19, to discuss the proposed replacement of Bridge W-9 on Brielle Road. The meeting, hosted by the New Jersey Historic Sites Council, will take place at 10 a.m. via Microsoft Teams.

“Despite continuous maintenance by the County, the age and condition of Bridge W-9 has reached the point where the Bridge is unreliable, causing frustrations for those traveling in the area,” said Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works & Engineering.

The Bridge W-9 replacement is part of the larger Three Bridges Project, which also includes Bridges W-7 and W-8. Residents interested in learning more about the project can visit www.monmouthcountythreebridges.com, where access to the virtual meeting will also be provided.
