New York man pleads guilty to felony in Jan. 6 Capitol breach

WASHINGTON — A New York man pleaded guilty on Friday to a felony charge of civil disorder in connection with the January 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol, where rioters disrupted the certification of the 2020 presidential election results.

Christopher Douglas Finney, 32, of Hopewell Junction, New York, admitted to the charge before U.S. District Judge Trevor N. McFadden. Finney is scheduled to be sentenced on January 24, 2025, according to court records.

Finney traveled to Washington, D.C., for a rally on January 6, 2021, and was recorded making statements about storming the Capitol. He was wearing protective gear and carrying flex cuffs when he joined other rioters who breached police lines and entered the Capitol.

Footage shows Finney entering and exiting the Capitol through broken windows and doors before joining a group push against officers at the Lower West Terrace, a site of intense violence against law enforcement that day.
