BALTIMORE, Md. — A 24-year-old Baltimore man is in police custody in connection with a violent assault on several Washington Commanders fans in the city’s Central District. The Baltimore Police Department announced Monday that John Callis turned himself in following the October 13 incident on South Charles Street.
According to police, Callis is facing charges of first-degree aggravated assault and three counts of second-degree assault. The charges stem from an altercation that occurred after a football game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Commanders at M&T Bank Stadium.
Witnesses reported that the incident unfolded in the 1000 block of South Charles Street, near the stadium, where a group of Commanders fans had been walking following the game. Callis allegedly confronted the fans and the encounter quickly escalated into a physical attack. Police said that several individuals were injured in the assault, although the extent of their injuries was not disclosed.
Local authorities have not provided additional details on what led to the altercation, but social media accounts from the scene described an argument between Callis and the Commanders fans, reportedly stemming from a post-game dispute. Video from the incident shows Callis randomly attacking fans of the opposing football team.
The Baltimore Police Department launched an investigation shortly after the assault, leading to Callis turning himself in. He is currently facing multiple assault charges, with the most serious being first-degree aggravated assault.
