ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. — New Jersey Forest Fire Service crews continue to battle a wildfire in the area of Jacobs Road in Rockaway Township, Morris County. As of Monday, the fire has burned approximately 77 acres and is 70% contained, according to fire officials.
The wildfire, named the Microwave Wildfire, is threatening 13 structures in the area, but no evacuations have been ordered. Jacobs Road remains closed to traffic as crews work to fully contain the fire.
Efforts to control the blaze have included the deployment of Forest Fire Service hand crews and engines, as well as a helicopter equipped with a 350-gallon water capacity. On Saturday afternoon, the helicopter dropped 15 loads of water on the fire to aid in containment. Local Morris County fire companies are also on scene, providing structural protection to nearby buildings.

The cause of the wildfire is currently under investigation. Authorities have announced that the next update on the fire’s status is expected at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 21.
