Fredericksburg man arrested for stealing car and shoplifting in Stafford County

STAFFORD, Va. — A 38-year-old Fredericksburg man was arrested after deputies discovered him in possession of a stolen vehicle at a Wawa in Stafford County, authorities said.

According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest stemmed from a vehicle theft reported at Dalo Motors on September 23. Staff at the dealership, located at 3001 Richmond Highway, told police that at around 6:32 p.m., an unknown suspect broke into the business, stole keys to a red Hyundai Sonata, and drove off in the vehicle. The suspect was described as a Black male wearing a black hoodie with white writing.

The investigation led deputies to the Wawa at 105 Garrisonville Road on October 19. At around 8:58 a.m., First Sergeant J.D. Floirendo received an anonymous tip that the stolen vehicle was at the location with North Carolina license plates, which were later confirmed to be stolen. Upon arrival, Floirendo found the vehicle occupied by one individual.

Deputy F.A. Martinez joined Floirendo, and the two conducted a high-risk stop, detaining the driver without incident. The suspect was identified as Edriques Gills, authorities said. Deputies located clothing inside the vehicle matching the description of what the suspect wore during the original larceny at Dalo Motors.

Additionally, deputies found a cold Bud Light inside the car, which Gills allegedly stole from the Wawa just moments before their arrival, the sheriff’s office said.
