Man shot and killed in vehicle found at D.C. crash scene


WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man was found fatally shot inside a vehicle in Southeast D.C. on Sunday morning, prompting an ongoing investigation by law enforcement.

Officers from the Sixth District responded to a report of a vehicle crash at around 8:47 a.m. in the 1400 block of 18th Street, Southeast. Upon arrival, they found an adult male unconscious and not breathing, with an apparent gunshot wound inside the vehicle.

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene but were unable to revive the victim, who was pronounced dead. Police believe the shooting occurred in the 1500 block of 19th Street, Southeast, a short distance from where the vehicle was found.


The victim has been identified as Leonard Taylor Jr., 28, of Suitland, Maryland.

The case remains under investigation, and police are asking anyone with information to contact them at (202) 727-9099 or send anonymous tips by texting 50411. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the homicide.
