14-year-old charged in fatal Jersey City shooting of 19-year-old


JERSEY CITY, N.J. — A 14-year-old male has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Kashyne Grant earlier this month, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. The juvenile, whose name has not been released due to his age, was taken into custody on Monday by authorities on Bergen Avenue.

The shooting occurred on Friday, October 11, when Jersey City police responded to reports of gunfire near Garfield Avenue and Brown Place. Officers arriving at the scene discovered Grant with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center for emergency treatment but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on Monday, October 14, just after 10 a.m.

The juvenile suspect is facing multiple charges, including murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, as outlined in the state’s criminal code. Prosecutor Suarez confirmed that, due to the suspect’s age, details related to the case remain confidential.


Authorities have not disclosed any additional information about the circumstances surrounding the incident or the investigation, citing juvenile confidentiality laws.
