GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A Montgomery County resident who bought her first-ever lottery ticket at her family’s urging has won a $1 million second-tier Mega Millions prize. The novice player purchased the winning quick-pick ticket for the July 19 drawing at Quincy’s Bar & Grille on Quince Orchard Road, according to the Maryland Lottery.
The woman, a legal assistant, said it wasn’t her idea to play but her family convinced her to give it a try. Encouraged by her aunt, she selected the Mega Millions game and let the terminal pick the numbers. She returned to Quincy’s to check her ticket after the drawing and was stunned when the ticket scanner revealed her win.
“I was in shock,” she recalled of the moment she realized she had become a millionaire. Despite the life-changing win, the small-town resident indicated she probably won’t try her luck again, believing this windfall is “all the luck” she’ll ever need.
The winner has no immediate spending plans and intends to save and invest her prize money, mentioning that it might help her pursue law school in the future.
Quincy’s Bar & Grille also shares in the excitement, receiving a $2,500 retailer bonus for selling the winning ticket. Maryland has sold three $1 million second-tier Mega Millions tickets in 2024, with one still unclaimed from an Oct. 15 drawing sold at Check Cash Depot in Brooklyn Park.
