PHILADELPHIA — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Philadelphia deported a Salvadoran national on Oct. 4 who is wanted in his home country for aggravated homicide and association with a terrorist organization. The individual, identified as Gustavo Adolfo Rivas Munoz, was handed over to law enforcement authorities in El Salvador upon arrival.
“Thanks to the excellent work of our deportation officers, Gustavo Adolfo Rivas Munoz has been returned to El Salvador to face justice in his home country,” said ERO Philadelphia Field Office Director Cammilla Wamsley.
Rivas first entered the United States unlawfully in February 2013, when he was apprehended near Hidalgo, Texas, by U.S. Border Patrol. He was served with a notice to appear before an immigration judge and later released under an order of recognizance. On Feb. 1, 2017, an immigration judge in Harlingen, Texas, ordered Rivas removed in absentia.
In October 2023, the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, convicted Rivas of conspiracy to commit assault and sentenced him to 25 years in prison, with 20 years of the sentence suspended and credit given for time served. After serving part of his sentence, Rivas came into ICE custody in August 2024, when ERO Baltimore lodged an immigration detainer at the Jessup Correctional Institution in Maryland.
On Aug. 22, ERO Baltimore officers arrested Rivas at Jessup and transferred him to the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Pennsylvania to await deportation. Following his Oct. 4 removal, Rivas was turned over to Salvadoran authorities, who had sought his extradition on charges of aggravated homicide and terrorist organization affiliation.
