Man hospitalized after stabbing attack in Cumberland alley


CUMBERLAND, Md. — A 34-year-old man was hospitalized Sunday night after being attacked by multiple individuals wielding weapons in an alley on the 300 block of Springdale Street, according to the Cumberland Police Department.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious person at 10:20 p.m. and found the victim suffering from stab wounds, police said in a press release. First responders provided medical aid at the scene before the Cumberland Fire Department arrived and transported the man to UPMC Western Maryland for treatment of what authorities described as “significant injuries.”

Investigators believe the victim was assaulted by several people, though details regarding the suspects or motive have not been released. Police stated they are actively gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
