Cambridge man charged with animal cruelty after throwing cat into traffic sign


CAMBRIDGE, Md. — A 28-year-old man was arrested on October 17 after police responded to a disturbance involving the reported abuse of a small cat. Cambridge Police were dispatched to the area of Academy Street and Cedar Street at approximately 1:50 p.m. after receiving reports of a male subject throwing a cat into a traffic sign.

Upon arrival, officers found the injured cat, which was later taken to a veterinarian for treatment and diagnosed with pelvic injuries. The male suspect, identified as Lamar Marcus Smith, was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of animal cruelty. He was later held without bond at the Dorchester County Department of Corrections.

During the investigation, police identified a female subject involved in the disturbance as Brandy Renee Brooks, 43. Officers reported that Brooks became uncooperative and disorderly, which attracted a crowd at the scene. Brooks was subsequently arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. She was later released on a criminal citation.
